We have a very nice example of the weapon that General George S. Patton once called "the greatest battle implement ever devised.” For your consideration is a Springfield M1 Garand that was manufactured in May of 1944. This rifle was re-arsenalled in September of 1965, where it appears that all that was replaced was the furniture and the op rod. This rifle was purchased from the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 1997 and includes the box that it shipped in, three Garand clips, CMP manual, and paperwork from CMP. The bore is clean and bright with sharp rifling. There is minimal  wear bumps and dings in the wood and metal, making this rifle much nicer than a normal surplus rifle.
