What's Included

  • Ruger M77 Mk II .30-06 rifle

The Ruger M77 was introduced in 1968 to compete with the established big names in American sporting rifles. Typical of Ruger designs, it emphasizes toughness and reliability, with a Mauser-type controlled-feed mechanism with large claw extractor. The model received a Mk II upgrade, introduced in 1989. This specific example is the All-Weather, featuring a stainless action paired with the famous Zytel “boat paddle” stock, so named for its unusual cutout at the rear and extreme ruggedness in challenging conditions. Regrettably, the All-Weather was short-lived, only being offered from 1990 to 2006. As such, these models have become highly-collectible.

The M77 Mk II features a typical bolt action familiar to any shooter. The Mauser influence on this action is obvious, with the two large locking lugs, large claw extractor, and controlled round feed design. A three-position safety catch is present, the rearmost setting of which locks the gun and bolt out of action. Integrated scope ring mounting points are machined into the receiver. The trigger is crisp and light. The rifle features a 4-round internal magazine which hinges open for easy unloading. The action of this rifle is in Excellent condition – the bolt operates smoothly with zero hangups or binding. The finish on the action is in Excellent condition with very modest wear noted.

The rifle’s 22” barrel is factory standard. The bore is in Excellent condition with sharp lands and grooves and a bright finish. A few tiny dings are noted on the exterior of the barrel, consistent with use in the field.

The rifle’s furniture is standard for the M77 Mk II All-Weather, being made of Zytel and known for its durability in the most extreme conditions. Present and in Excellent condition are the black plastic stock inserts. The stock is in Excellent condition with modest wear, nicks, and scuffs noted. The buttplate is of soft rubber for increased shooting comfort. Front and rear sling swivels are present from the factory.

This Ruger M77 Mk II is a fine example of its line, and is also just in time for hunting season. Its stainless-steel construction, timeless .30-06 chambering, distinctive “boat paddle” stock, and controlled-round-feed action make it a rugged and dependable hunting rifle, especially well suited to challenging field conditions. These rifles have developed a loyal following among hunters who value function and durability over unnecessary ornamentation. An unmistakable example of American sporting-rifle design.
