TGI D-Technik vz. 58 7.62x39mm

vz58 • vz.58 • vz-58 • vz 58 • vz. 58

The receiver is marked:

[serial number]
SA vz. 58 SPORTER
CAL. 7.62x39

D-TECHNIK A.S.
CZECH REPUBLIC
TGI KNOX TN

includes
• one rifle, shown here, with side-folding stock
• six 30-round magazines
• one sling, not pictured here

does not include
• original box
- I am not the original owner, and did not get the box with this

It is my understanding - and somebody can correct me if I'm wrong - that the D-Technik vz.58s were made with the original military barrels.

And that the later Czech Small Arms and Czechpoint vz.58s were assembled with commercial barrels made by Lothar Walther.

The vz.58 rifle has a forged/milled steel receiver and although its outward appearance superficially resembles the AK rifle, the weapons are completely different and no parts, to include the thirty-round magazines, are interchangeable.

The vz.58 has appeared in several movies, although in many cases wasn’t recognized by viewers. One early appearance was in the 1987 film Full Metal Jacket. Wielding the vz.58 was the Vietnamese female sniper hiding in a building that shoots several Marines.

In October 2007, CZ-USA announced their two new semiautomatic-only vz.58 rifles; the Tactical Sporter and the Military Sporter, available for sale in the U.S. The new rifles are manufactured by D-Technik a.s. Jablunka, Czech Republic.

The vz.58 Military Sporter rifle is available with an original military fixed or folding buttstock and can accept original thirty-round magazines. To be compliant for import into the U.S., the rifle’s receivers are made so that they cannot accept a high-capacity magazine, and a barrel extension is added so that the barrel meets the BATF criteria. Once the rifles arrive at the importer’s facility, the trigger, sear, disconnector, magazine follower and floorplate are replaced with U.S. made components. This alteration allows the original military fixed and folding stocks to be used and the magazine well opened up to allow the original thirty-round magazines to be used.

Among the nations of the Warsaw Pact, only Czechoslovakia designed and produced its own infantry assault rifle - everyone else used the Kalashnikov. The Czech vz.58 is often mistaken for an AK because it has the same basic layout, but is in reality a completely different gun mechanically and has no interchangeable parts with an AK. It is a short stroke gas piston system will a pivoting locking block like a Walther P38 pistol and a unique linear hammer for firing. The vz.58 was produced from 1958 until 1984, and underwent no substantial modifications during its service, although various new bolt-on parts are available today for commercial sale.

The Czech/Czechoslovakian Vz.58 was a legendary rifle, serving Czechoslovakia, (later the Czech Rep., Slovakia) for more than 60 years. Known for it's accuracy, reliability and how it differers in every way from the Kalashnikov, outside of the appearance; the Vz. 58 has been a loyal friend to the Czech soldier.

Many Czech service members were hesitant on turning their Vz.58 in for a good reason. The rifle is light-weight, accurate and one of the most dependable systems available.

We shoot a beautiful example on loan from Small Arms Solutions, which was made by Czech Small Arms and sold by Czechpoint USA. Henry liked it so much that he ended up procuring one for his personal collection after testing it!
