Just in time for hunting season! This Savage Axis is a bolt-action rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. This is the factory bull barrel version with Mossy Oak camouflage applied. A previous owner has fitted a Sig Sauer Buckmasters 3-12 scope. All factory rollmarks are present, indicating its place of manufacture as well as caliber designations and the like.

Condition

Overall Condition: Excellent condition, showing very limited signs of prior use. The action appears to be in good working order.

Bore Condition: Excellent – clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.

Furniture condition: Excellent – Essentially no handling marks noted.

Specific Condition Notes: Rubber buttpad is soft and pliable. Safety operates correctly. The scope is crisp and clear and functions well – zoom knob turns smoothly. Small, inconsequential dots of light surface oxidation are noted on the exterior of the barrel.

Savage has been making dependable, tough rifles for well over a century. Released in 2010, the Axis model sought to offer a more budget-friendly option with all the same quality as its brethren like the Models 11 and 110. The main differences between the Axis and other Savage rifles are the redesigned bolt handle, simplified safety, a simplified receiver geometry, different takedown procedure, and simplified bedding design. That said, the Axis is still well-regarded for its accuracy, just like its more expensive relatives. The Axis II came about in 2014 and integrated the esteemed AccuTrigger, giving shooters a much-desired improvement.

This Axis II rifle features a typical bolt action, with a two-lug bolt arrangement comparable to other Savage models. Its simple tang-mounted safety falls right under the shooter’s thumb. The Accu-Trigger, as expected, is crisp and light. The action of this rifle is in Excellent condition, operating smoothly with no binding or hangups. The bluing on the receiver and barrel is in overall Excellent condition. The receiver finish shows essentially no signs of wear, and the finish on the barrel notes a few very small, insignificant dots of surface oxidation. The safety operates smoothly.

The rifle is fitted with a Sig Sauer Buckmasters 3-12x44, which offers an appropriate range of magnification for the ranges expected of this rifle. The scope is in Excellent condition with clear, crisp glass. The scope also comes with flip caps. Only very limited handling marks are noted on the scope.

The rifle’s 22” barrel is factory standard. This model is fitted with a factory bull barrel with a target recessed crown, offering significantly better accuracy potential and utility for longer-range work, which pairs naturally with its 6.5 Creedmoor chambering. The bore is in Excellent condition with sharp lands and grooves and a mirror bright finish. The crown is in similar condition.

The rifle’s furniture is factory standard, being a polymer type with grip and forend texturing. Present from the factory is Mossy Oak camouflage. Very little wear is noted on the stock. The factory 4-round magazine is present and in good working order.

This Savage Axis is a great way to get into the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge at an attractive price. It remains highly suitable for medium game or target work out to a significant distance with a minimum of recoil, and its bull barrel permits better accuracy and longer strings of fire without overheating. Equipped with a quality Sig Sauer scope, this rifle is range or woods-ready.
