Thompson/Center Compass .204 Ruger Bolt-Action Rifle, Threaded Barrel, Tasco World-Class 3-9x40 Scope

Just in time for hunting season! This T/C Compass is a bolt-action rifle chambered in .204 Ruger. This is the factory threaded barrel version with a Tasco World-Class 3-9x scope fitted. All factory rollmarks are present, indicating its place of manufacture as well as caliber designations and the like.

Overall Condition: Excellent condition, showing very limited signs of prior use. The action appears to be in good working order.

Bore Condition: Excellent – clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.

Furniture condition: Very Good+ – Only very limited scuffs and handling marks noted. The front and rear sling swivel studs note light surface oxidation.

Specific Condition Notes: Rubber buttpad is soft and pliable. Safety operates correctly in all three positions. The scope is crisp and clear and functions well.

Thompson Center is best known for their single-shot rifles, and in 2016 they launched their Compass line of bolt-action repeating rifles. These rifles are known for their attractive price point, as well as their three-lug bolt for a short throw to clear optics easily. Tough and utilitarian, this rifle is well-suited for small game work out to long range given the caliber of .204 Ruger. This cartridge fires very light projectiles (32-40 grains) at very high velocity (~4,000 fps).

This Compass rifle features a typical bolt action, with a three-lug bolt offering a short throw and a three-position safety. The action conveniently labels what each safety position does: F for fire, S for safe, BL for bolt lock. Its medium-weight barrel is well-suited for mid- to longer-range work, and its .204 Ruger caliber packs a punch given its very high velocity. The action of this rifle is in Excellent condition, operating smoothly with no binding or hangups. The bluing on the receiver and barrel is in Excellent condition with very limited signs of prior use. The safety operates very smoothly in each position.

The rifle is fitted with a Tasco World-Class 3-9x40, which offers an appropriate range of magnification for the ranges expected of this rifle. The scope is in Excellent condition with clear, crisp glass. Essentially no handling marks are noted on the scope.

The rifle’s 22” barrel is factory standard. It is factory threaded 1/2x28 for all of your favorite muzzle devices and comes standard with a knurled thread protector. The bore is in Excellent condition with sharp lands and grooves and a mirror bright finish. The crown is in similar condition.

The rifle’s furniture is factory standard, being a black polymer type with grip and forend texturing. The original T/C grip cap is present. The rubber buttpad is soft and pliable with very little wear. Limited scuffs and handling marks are noted on the stock. The factory 5-round rotary magazine is present and in good working order.

This T/C Compass is a great way to get into the .204 Ruger high-velocity cartridge at an attractive price. It remains highly suitable for small game or target work out to 500 yards with a minimum of recoil, and its threaded barrel permits the attachment of muzzle devices to further expand the utility of the gun. Equipped with a scope, this rifle is range and field-ready.
