John Browning’s Winchester Model 1897 refined the company’s early pump-action design into one of the defining American repeating shotguns of the exposed-hammer era. Its takedown system and broad range of gauges and configurations helped keep the design in production for decades, and 16 Gauge field guns remain representative of the model’s practical sporting legacy.
