Springfield Armory has long provided quality 1911s to the shooting public, and in 2022 introduced their own take on the 2011 concept – the Prodigy. While keeping all the familiar hallmarks of the 1911 – a crisp single-action trigger, natural pointing characteristics, and familiar control placement – the Prodigy ups the game with double-stack magazines, an accessory rail, optics mounting capability, and a heavy bull barrel for precision under long strings of fire. This particular Prodigy was made in 2023 and is in Excellent+ condition, showing exceedingly limited signs of prior use.

The 5 in barrel is factory original. All expected Springfield marks are visible on the frame and barrel. The barrel is made of stainless steel, and is a match-grade bull barrel for improved performance and accuracy during long strings of fire. The barrel is held in the slide by a unique bushing/recoil spring retainer arrangement. The slide features front and rear cocking serrations as well as a dovetailed front fiber optic sight. The rear serrated sight is integrated into the Agency Optics System, which allows for fitment of a wide array of red dot sights to the pistol. Very little wear is visible on the slide. The barrel shows signs of handling, as is expected, but rifling appears to be crisp and sharp.

The frame is in Excellent condition with similarly little wear or handling marks. Featuring a skeletonized hammer, the frame is made of forged steel that mates to a polymer grip panel. This grip panel features stippling from the factory for a sure grip during long days at the competition range. A skeletonized trigger is present which is adjustable. Ambidextrous safety catches are fitted. An extended magazine release button is present in the expected location. The pistol ships with both 17- and 20-rd magazines from the factory, as well as all factory papers, serial-matched box, and all factory accessories.

This Prodigy is a wonderful opportunity to get into the 2011/competition 9mm game at a very attractive price. It comes with everything it did from the factory, except the high price tag – make it yours today!
