Original WWII German KS98 Short-Model Dress Bayonet & Scabbard


Rare Railway Police (Bahnschutzpolizei) Unit Markings - District 11 Kassel


Up for auction is a beautifully preserved, 100% authentic private-purchase German KS98 Dress ("Walking-Out") Bayonet. This piece features highly desirable Civil/Paramilitary unit stampings, making it a scarce variant for advanced military edged-weapon collections.


HISTORICAL MARKINGS & DETAILS:


• Maker Mark: The blade ricasso features the early trademark for E. & F. Hörster.


• Unit Stamping: The rear crossguard and the mouth of the steel scabbard are clearly stamped "Bz. 11". In Third Reich inventory codes, "Bz." denotes the Bahnschutz / Bahnschutzpolizei (State Railway Police). The "11" designates Reichsbahndirektion Kassel (Railway District 11).


• Serial Number: The crossguard is also stamped with weapon inventory tracking number 567, matching the strict registration protocols of the German police departments.


CONDITION REPORT:


• Blade: The single-edged blade features deep fullers and retains a brilliant bright finish. Only minor runner marks present from being pulled in and out of the scabbard. Tip is sharp and completely straight.


• Hilt & Hardware: The birds-head pommel and single-quillon crossguard retain much of their plating, with honest age patina and some light surface wear. The push-button hilt mechanism functions smoothly.


• Grips: The original black checkered composite grip scales are tightly riveted to the tang. Please note: There is a clean, visible age crack running down the back spine of the handle scale (clearly shown in the photos). The rivets remain 100% solid, and the handle scales are tightly secure with absolutely no wobbling or looseness.


• Scabbard: The steel scabbard retains a strong amount of its original black factory finish with honest handling wear and light patina. No major dents. The bayonet slides in snugly and holds tight.
