Bushmaster Classic model "Shorty" post-ban AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle chambered in 5.56 Nato, made some in the 1990s. This rifle features a 16 inch HBAR barrel configuration with a 1/9 twist rate, TARGET BARREL CROWN and fixed A2-style stock setup. The post-ban configuration omits the bayonet lug, flash suppressor, and adjustable stock features associated with earlier pre-ban rifles, in order to comply with the Federal Crime Control bill at the time. Adjustable sights are installed, and the rifle uses a standard AR-pattern receiver layout. Capacity is listed at 5 round, but of course will accept all M16 AR15 magazine and drums.
Production from the Famous Windham, Maine Bushmaster facility reflects the post-1994 federal compliance period when manufacturers modified rifle configurations to meet feature restrictions in effect at the time. The barrel “Shorty” configuration combines the compact 16 inch barrel length with an HBAR profile and fixed-stock arrangement. Unlike some period Colt rifles, this Bushmaster retains a standard AR-15 receiver pattern without a sear block design Colt used. You can still just drop in a force reset trigger cassette and your ready to go. This rifle is confirmed to be in the correct configuration for the era, however the factory parts have been replaced over the decades including the magazine, common with many used ARs. The barrel and receiver are factory marked Bushmaster.
Additional configuration details include a semi-automatic action and fixed stock assembly with non-ambidextrous controls. The rifle retains the traditional AR-style pistol grip layout and adjustable sight system associated with A2-pattern carbines from the post-ban production era.
