Description:
For sale is a scarce and highly desirable Colt “The Colt ’57” bolt-action sporting rifle, chambered in .30-06 Springfield and manufactured in 1957. Serial number 2365.
This is Colt’s short-lived first postwar centerfire sporting rifle, built for Colt on an imported Belgian FN commercial Mauser 98-type action. The rifle is clearly marked “MADE IN BELGIUM” and carries the correct barrel legend: “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. – ‘THE COLT ’57’ – CAL. 30/06.” Only approximately 5,000 Colt ’57 rifles were produced during the model’s single-year run. The rifle retains an honest, well-cared-for vintage hunting-rifle appearance. The walnut stock has attractive grain and shows ordinary handling marks from field use. Metal shows age-appropriate finish wear and scattered light freckling/spotting, as clearly shown in the photographs. This is not a refinished or over-restored example—it is an original, desirable Colt/FN sporter with genuine 1950s character.
A hard-to-find Colt sporting rifle built around one of the finest commercial Mauser actions ever offered. Ideal for the Colt collector, FN Mauser enthusiast, or hunter who appreciates a quality classic rifle in the versatile .30-06 cartridge.
