1968 Sako L61R "Finnbear"
7mm Remington Magnum
Not Garcia marked but transitional--barrel also not marked "Bofors Steel" as some early models were. Serial places it in 1967-8.
Leupold Vari-X 3-9X AO optic with a gloss finish and clear glass & fine plex reticle.
Hooded fixed blade front and notched rear OEM iron sights.
Very hard to find Leupold Sako-specific NOS gloss blued tapered dovetail scope rings
Pictured full-grain leather sling isn't anything special but it's nice and could be included for a fair offer.
Overall condition conservatively 9/10 and ready for long-range hunting anywhere. Metal condition 10/10, nearly as new. Bore very bright. Action is...exactly what this rifle is known for. Though the earlier two-lug controlled feed action, it's like glass. As good as my Pre-64 Winchester 70, maybe better. Rifle has been to the range to be zeroed and generally enjoyed a few times, and in my hands has proven to be a 1-1.5MOA rifle off a sandbag with S&B soft point hunting loads. On the heavy side so recoil is manageable, similar to .30-06.
I rescued this rifle in safe-worn but nearly unfired used condition from a big box retailer, where the only evidence of use was some significant lacquer damage to the lower buttstock. No dents, just chips. Probably banged it into the safe door lip repeatedly. After spot-filling the damaged areas with matching lacquer and a wet sand/polish, one would be pressed to see where the repair area is. This was NOT a full refinish. Most of the finish is original. Hand checkered walnut was masked and is in great shape. Additional photos ready upon request.
Reason for selling: I didn't need it when I bought it, I just felt compelled to save it. It's a beautiful rifle. But 7mm isn't legal for hunting in Ohio so it should go to someone who can appreciate it somewhere it can be better used. Would make a terrific and nearly depreciation-proof option for someone local to take with them on a western hunt. or just keep it here and turn coyotes into clouds, I guess. It's also a nice range toy.
Terms: Local F2F sale within reasonable distance with CCW, cash or certified funds. FFL transfer at local dealer of your choice if preferred.
I will gladly ship (prepaid) to FFL at the buyer's expense as long as the destination legally permits the owner to have it. Please contact me through Armslist with FFL information.
Price, rifle only: $1150 OBO
Price, rifle, scope, rings (as pictured) $1475 OBO
Open to interesting good quality partial or full trades. Willing to add cash for a couple very specific things, let me know what you have. .357 Miroku Winchester lever action, PRS-capable bolt-action, perhaps a very nice 1911/2011, modern sporting clays 12ga OU...I'm flexible. If you made it this far in the ad we probably have similar taste.
