Read this first: this is a Magnum Research “Shooter’s Model”, and I could not find the blemish. Shooter’s Model is the factory’s own grade for a pistol that is 100% new in the box but left the line with a slight finish imperfection — in their words, typically very hard to see except to a well-trained eye or with a magnifier. I have this pistol in hand and I have gone over it properly. I cannot locate the flaw. I am telling you the grade anyway, because that is what it was sold to me as and you are entitled to know it before you buy rather than after. What it amounts to in practice is a discount on a pistol I could not tell apart from a standard one — and the photographs here are of this exact gun, so judge the finish yourself.

What it is otherwise: the Desert Eagle Mark XIX in .50 Action Express, brushed chrome, on the 6-inch barrel. Gas-operated with a rotating bolt — the mechanism is closer to a rifle than a pistol, which is how it handles the cartridge. Carbon steel barrel, frame and slide, full Weaver accessory rail, single-action trigger at about four pounds, combat fixed sights on an 8.5-inch sight radius. Seven rounds, 10.75 inches overall, four pounds six ounces empty.

The .50 AE Mark XIX

There is no subtle way to describe this pistol. Seven rounds of .50 Action Express out of a six-inch polygonal barrel, in a 4.5-pound steel handgun that works by tapping gas off the barrel and cycling a rotating bolt. The weight is the point — it is what makes the cartridge manageable. The brushed chrome is the finish the Desert Eagle is best known for.
