This Ruger Single Six is a .22 cal single action revolver. First released in 1953, the Single Six underwent a “New Model” upgrade in 1973, which incorporated a transfer bar safety system, permitting the loading of six rounds in the chamber safely with reduced risk of unintentional discharge. In most other respects, this is a tribute to the venerable Colt Single Action Army revolver, except in .22 cal. Its graceful lines and fine single action trigger call to mind a bygone era of American history when wheelguns ruled. This Single Six comes with two interchangeable cylinders: one in .22LR and the other in .22 Magnum caliber. This Ruger is a great way to scratch the itch of a SAA at a much lower price point and cheaper ammo. All expected maker’s marks are present on this handgun.

Condition

Overall Condition: Like New in Box condition. This revolver shows vanishingly small traces of prior ownership.

Bore Condition: Like New – bright, with sharp lands and grooves. Very few traces of past firing are present.

Frame Condition: Like New – Very faint signs of use. Exceedingly faint cylinder drag line is visible.

Specific Condition Notes: Under studio lighting, a wonderful faint plum coloration to the bluing is visible. Both cylinders are serial matched to the gun.

The Ruger Single Six has always been offered as a low-cost entry into the Single Action Army market. With a lower price point and much cheaper ammunition, this is a revolver that can be shot all day without breaking the bank. This particular example is the now-discontinued 6 ½” model with fixed sights, which is very nostalgic and closely mimics the fullsize SAA’s handling characteristics. The Single Six offers modern amenities such as a transfer bar that enables safer carry with a fully-loaded cylinder, plus a loading gate that frees the cylinder, not requiring half-cocking the hammer. This example was made in 2007 and is in Like New in Box condition, showing vanishingly faint signs of prior use.

The 6 ½ in barrel is factory original. All expected Ruger marks are visible on the frame and barrel. The barrel is steel with a blued finish, and retains the traditional profile of the SAA, despite being in .22 cal. Fixed front and rear sights add to the nostalgia, lending themselves to bullseye-type single handed shooting.

The frame is in Like New condition with similarly little wear or handling marks. The gun features a smooth trigger and serrated spur hammer. The loading gate frees the cylinder to spin, obviating the need for a hammer half-cock. Cylinder gap is minimal. Cylinder lockup is tight. Endshake is minimal. The revolver ships with its serial-matched factory plastic case and factory manual.
