The V-BOB is Dan Wesson’s bobtail Commander — a Valor cut down to carry. The bobbed mainspring housing rounds off the heel of the grip so the butt does not print under a shirt, and the 4.25-inch match-grade barrel keeps it shootable rather than merely portable. Steel frame, two-tone: black slide over a stainless frame, with grey and black G10 grips.

It is built the way Dan Wesson build things rather than the way volume 1911s get built. The barrel is stamped MATCH and hand-fitted, the slide stop is recessed so laser grips clear it, the front sight is tritium against a serrated U-notch rear, and the thumb and beavertail safeties are where your hand expects them. Two eight-round magazines, 36.5 ounces, 7.9 inches overall. Made in Norwich, New York.

What The Bobtail Actually Does

A standard 1911 butt is a square corner, and it is the part that prints through a cover garment. The bobtail cuts that corner away and rounds the mainspring housing into the frame, which does two things: it hides the gun better and it brings the web of your hand higher onto the backstrap. On a full-weight steel .45 that is a meaningful difference in how it carries and how it comes back on target.

A Match Barrel, Not A Match Badge

The barrel is stamped MATCH and you can read it through the ejection port in the photographs. On this platform that means hand-fitting at the lockup, and it is most of why a Dan Wesson costs what it does against a production 1911.
