Up for sale is an excellent condition B.F.I. Bushmaster M17S semi-automatic bullpup rifle chambered in .223 Rem / 5.56 NATO. Manufactured by Bushmaster Firearms International in Windham, Maine, this rifle features an innovative layout that places the action behind the trigger group to minimize total length while maintaining a 20-inch full-length barrel. It operates on a clean short-stroke gas piston system with an AR-15 style rotating bolt, utilizing an extruded aluminum upper and a heavy-duty polymer lower chassis that accepts standard AR-15 magazines.

Originally designed in Australia by Armtech in 1986 for military trials, the platform was later licensed to Bushmaster in 1992 for commercial U.S. production to bypass import restrictions. It holds a distinct place in firearms history as the first commercially successful, domestically produced bullpup rifle in the United States. Because it was not banned by name during the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, it became highly sought-after as one of the few domestic semi-automatic bullpups available. Bushmaster produced the rifle until 2005, making this Windham-era piece a unique collectible bridging Australian military design and American history.

This specific rifle is in excellent structural and aesthetic shape, showing very clean external finishes and crisp factory markings. The bore and rifling are bright and excellent, and the rifle functions perfectly. The package includes the original factory owner's manual, one 30-round Magpul P-Mag, and the attached black nylon carrying sling. The magazine will only ship where legal.
