This is a very collectible and somewhat rare No. 4 rifle in very good condition. Originally manufactured as a No. 4 Mark 1* during WWII, the rifle was later sent to BSA (Birmingham Small Arms) for an FTR (Factory Thorough Repair). BSA performed this work in 1954 based on the date on the receiver. Most FTR's were done at Fazakerley, but this is a rare example from BSA.

During the FTR, the rifle was upgraded to a No. 4 Mark 1/3, which followed specifications similar to the new No. 4 Mark 2. This work included removing the previous markings from the metal, restamping, and relocating the trigger attachment from the trigger guard to the forestock.

The rifle features matching numbers, a very nice 2-groove barrel, a Mark 1 milled rear sight, and a No. 2 bolt head. The stock wood remains in very good condition for a military surplus rifle, while the metal finish is also good, with some areas showing typical wear consistent with its age and service history.
