Selling a unique Winchester Model 97 that started it's life as a Black Diamond circa 1906. Unfortunately, somewhere along the first half of its life, it lost its original iconic furniture and front end. Still a great looking pump gun that would look great in a gun room or shooting cowboy action or clays all day long, and guilt-free!

While it's been in my family since at least the early 60's, I don't know much about where or how my Grandfather came to own it. My Dad told me it's been around as far back as he could remember. My Grandfather was a bird hunter, clay shooter, and even took deer with a 12 gauge. It's got Minnesota registered scribe on the magazine, not sure what that's about. But the barrel and action go back to 1925 according to the serial numbers.

I took it to a local smith who replaced an extractor and confirmed it was in good order. I've taken it out and shot clays with it several times over the years I've had it.

  • Receiver/action has subsequently been buffed, polished, and reblued/refinished
  • Original Black Diamond barrel/front assembly and original Black Diamond stock are no longer present

  • Manufactured: February 1925
  • Originally fitted to a Standard / Field Grade Model 97
  • Does not serial-number match receiver
  • Barrel marked approximately:
    • MODEL 97 – WINCHESTER – 12 GA.
    • FULL
  • Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Connecticut address/patent markings present
  • Approximately 30-inch barrel
  • Full choke
  • Standard longitudinally grooved Model 97 pump/slide fore-end, "corn-cob" fore-end is grooved rather than checkered

Buttstock

  • Pistol-grip walnut buttstock
  • Exact manufacturer/origin unknown
  • Not the original Black Diamond Trap stock
  • Stock has been altered
  • Checkering is aftermarket/non-Winchester factory work
  • Large bordered checkering panels on both sides of wrist
  • Additional hand-cut checkering around underside/wrist
  • Apparent repair, graft, shim, or fitted wood at the stock head where it meets the receiver; exact nature unconfirmed without removing stock
