According to Ruger, the SR9c began to be shipped in January 2010.  The grip width of the SR9c is identical to that of the full-sized SR9 when measured across the safety levers, while being lighter and smaller in size than the SR9. The compact variant still includes the manual safety, movable rear sights, and modernized trigger. The SR9c pistols are equipped with a dual recoil spring assembly in contrast to the SR9's recoil spring assembly. Two magazines are typically included with the SR9c. The flat bottom floor plate of the standard 10-round compact magazine is present, and an extended floor plate is also included. The second magazine is a 17-round full-size model with a grip adapter that converts the short, compact SR9c grip to a full-sized grip. However, the SR9c is shipped from Ruger with two 10-round magazines and two extended floor plates in places where the amount of rounds in a gun is restricted by law. The SR9c slide has more retraction grooves (serrations) on the front side, making it easier to use. The round-in-chamber indicator eliminates the need to use the check button and also enables tactile round-in-chamber checking, even in total darkness, simply raising the forefinger to determine whether the indicator is raised or not, which is beneficial for both home defense and law enforcement.
