Browning Hi Power 9mm Para Semi-Auto Pistol, 4.7” Barrel, Mk III Standard with Target Sights, Craig Spegel Grips
This Browning Hi Power is a prime example of the Mk III Standard line, with high-gloss bluing and bullseye-type target sights. Produced in 1990, this comes from the prime of Belgian production. This particular pistol comes with a set of highly sought-after Craig Spegel walnut grips, which significantly improve the feel of the gun. This pistol is in Excellent condition with only minor signs of use. All expected rollmarks and import marks are present on this pistol.

Condition
Overall Condition: Excellent condition. This pistol shows few signs of prior use despite its age, with only very wear present.
Bore Condition: Excellent – mirror bright, with sharp lands and grooves.
Frame Condition: Excellent – only very small areas of finish wear visible, such as the rear strap and the bottom of the trigger.
Specific Condition Notes: Only visible under studio lighting, the slide and some smaller parts have a shade of a wonderful plum coloration, common on guns of this type and age.

The Browning Hi Power was the first truly modern, high capacity 9mm sidearm. Coming from the genius of John M. Browning, with assistance from Dieudonne Saive at FN, the Hi Power was released to market in 1935. Its large magazine capacity gave it unprecedented firepower, hence the name Hi Power. Throughout the 20th century, it was found in service in every corner of the globe, and continues to carry on to this day thanks to its heavy-duty construction, good ergonomics, and ample capacity. Since its introduction, the Hi Power has undergone several revisions, the last of which was the Mark III from 1982, which brought in a firing pin block, as well as a few other changes. This particular Hi Power comes from 1990 and features a forged frame, before FN switched to cast frames later in that decade. This Hi Power is the Mark III Standard with a deep, lustrous blued finish and target sights – the flagship of the line. It is in Excellent condition and shows little signs of past use.
The 4.7 in barrel is original. All expected Browning/FN marks are visible on the frame, barrel, and slide. The barrel is left in the white per tradition. Both front and rear sight are dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is click-adjustable. The front and rear sights both feature serrations to eliminate glare. The rear of the slide features an ambidextrous safety catch that blocks the hammer. Only very minor wear is visible on the slide and barrel. The slide, under studio lighting, has a slight plum tint, common to deep blued guns of this age.
The frame is in Excellent condition with nearly all of its original deep bluing intact. Minor finish wear is visible under the beavertail and on the bottom of the trigger. The trigger is as expected on a Hi Power; magazine disconnect is present. The pistol’s grips have been replaced with highly sought-after Craig Spegel walnut grips, which reduce the grip circumference and feature gorgeous hand-cut checkering. The pistol ships with one original Italian-made 13-rd magazine, in Excellent condition.
This piece is a time capsule from the golden years of Hi Power production – the original model was permanently retired by FN in 2018. As such, It remains in Excellent condition and surely will be snatched up by a discerning collector – make sure it’s you!
