French MAS Model 1949-56 (MAS 49/56) semi-automatic rifle. Imported by Century Arms International (CAI) and modified upon importation to fire .308 Winchester / 7.62x51 NATO. Serial number G 46016. Includes an original French military leather strap.

Features a direct-impingement gas-operated system with a tilting bolt mechanism, flash hider and grenade launcher sleeve, and folding grenade sight assembly. The receiver block below the rear sight is marked with assembly/part number G 16289.

Important: This rifle is one of the MAS 49/56 rifles converted by Century Arms to .308 during the 1990s. This particular conversion is reported to have frequent reliability and safety issues.
