This rifle is built on a 1916 Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) Gewehr 98 action, manufactured in Berlin. It has been sporterized with a custom-style sporting stock and a shortened barrel measuring approximately 19 inches.
The barrel has been cut down and the muzzle is rough, with no apparent finished crown. The bore is dark but does not appear to have pitting.
The rifle is fitted with a Williams aperture rear sight. The original DWM 1916 markings remain visible on the receiver, preserving some of the rifle's WWI-era history despite the later modifications.
An interesting old Mauser sporter combining a historic 1916 DWM action with later hunting-oriented modifications.
