Belgian Liège Flobert Single-Shot .22 Rimfire Rifle

Description:
Offered is an interesting 19th-century Belgian Flobert-pattern single-shot .22 rimfire / 6mm Flobert class, manufactured and proofed in Liège, Belgium, with its surviving proof marks indicating an approximate 1877–1893 date range.
This is a particularly interesting example of the inexpensive sporting, gallery and small-game rifles produced by the extensive Liège gunmaking trade during the latter part of the 19th century. No conventional manufacturer's name is visible, which is not unusual for Belgian trade arms of this period.
The rifle features a full-length octagonal barrel, external hammer, single trigger, fixed sights and walnut stock. The Flobert-type action utilizes a striker/firing projection integral with the hammer. Extraction is accomplished by a separate manually operated thumb extractor located at the breech.
Upon disassembly, the rifle displays remarkably simple period lockwork, including a coil-type trigger return spring extending rearward from the trigger into the stock.
The barrel carries identifiable Belgian/Liège proof and inspection markings, including the uncrowned ELG over star within an oval, the Liège Perron, and a star-over-E controller's mark. Taken together, these marks indicate Liège proofing during approximately 1877–1893. Additional Crown/JJ, LD and other assembly/workshop markings are present, although the original maker has not been conclusively identified.
The bore retains faint but visible lands and grooves, showing considerable wear consistent with the rifle's age. Exterior metal shows an attractive aged patina with finish loss, handling marks and normal wear. The walnut stock likewise shows numerous handling marks and finish wear appropriate for a firearm approximately 130–150 years old. Please examine the photographs carefully for overall condition.
