​Under ATF import regulations (18 U.S.C. § 925(d)(3)), foreign revolvers must feature a 3-inch barrel to clear U.S. Customs. To comply, Taurus fits their sub-2-inch barrels with extended sacrificial barrel stubs in Brazil, which are meant to be cut down and re-crowned at their Georgia plant prior to dealer delivery. This revolver bypassed that domestic cutting process entirely.
