This pistol is said to be the predecessor for the 92s models. The M1951 Beretta’s first locked-breech design to reach the market, the M1951, is a short recoil–operated pistol featuring a vertically falling locking piece and an open-top slide, with its locking mechanism influenced by the Walther P38. The locking piece, located beneath the barrel, is disengaged by a sliding pin and returned to battery by a beveled surface on the pistol’s frame. It incorporates two locking lugs that fit into corresponding recesses machined into the internal sides of the slide. Upon firing, the locking piece, integrated with the slide, recoils in unison with the barrel, which remains locked to the slide during this movement.
