Smith and Wesson model Victory possible BAVARIA POLICE mark East German C&R from Citywide Supply L.L.C. near South Tucson, Tucson, AZ

What we believe to be is a Smith & Wesson Model Victory is a double-action revolver chambered in correct caliber of .38 special. We also believe this particular revolver bears “ Bavaria Border Police ”  or " Bavarian Municipal Police " markings which were "sanitized" and milled/removed.  Those markings would have indicating postwar assignment to police forces in the State of Bavaria under U.S. occupation, which although the markings are in English, they would still be correct. There is also U.S. Property and acceptance stamp proofs still visible on top strap of the revolver as pictured, along with German type proofs on the barrel as pictured. The Victory series was produced during World War II, and revolvers in this configuration were commonly finished in a wartime matte blue or parkerized coating with smooth wooden grips. The frame and barrel follow the standard six-shot design typical of the Victory line, which was based on the Military & Police model but adapted for wartime production and allied contracts.

It is said that Victory revolvers were originally intended for British service use, as evidenced by the .38 S&W chambering compatible with the British .38/200 cartridge. Many were later redirected to European police agencies after the war, including West German and Italian forces, due to allied restrictions on the use of automatic pistols in police service. The English-language “Bavaria Municipal Police” engraving was applied for recognition by American occupation authorities, as English was more widely understood among U.S. personnel than German. This revolver is used and exhibits characteristics consistent with service-issued Victory models from the immediate postwar period.

There are no British proof marks visible, suggesting that the revolver did not enter British military service before being reassigned for possible police use. No accessories or packaging details are specified.
