FFL transfer is strongly preferred. Private party sales require the buyer to present a valid License to Purchase (LTP) or Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL). The LTP includes the background check through your local law enforcement, so if you have one in hand, you are cleared. Both parties sign the Pistol Sales Record (RI-060), which I am required to submit to local law enforcement within 10 days of sale. Michigan residents only, 18 or older. No documentation, no deal.
