Used US M1903 Springfield rifle that has been sporterized. This is a low number receiver that dates to 1910. The army believed these guns to be dangerous and withdrew them from service as they returned to depot for repair. However, as usual the USMC didn't get the memo and kept their low number guns in service though Guadalcanal. When WWII broke out, the low number guns we're rebarreled and had a new high strength bolt fitted and were returned to service. This rifle has both a High Standard replacement barrel and a Remington bolt. This indicates it went through the early war rebuild program. It also has the telltale pipe wrench marks on the barrel. This indicates USMC rebuild at Quantico. If only they could talk..... Again the CMP will not sell low number Springfields. So this rifle is sold as a non shooting collectors item or parts gun
