This is a Japanese Type 38 training or school rifle. It is an early year manufacture but hard to determine actual year. This is based on some of the components of the rifle such as the safety is of the early first type. It has a smooth bore rifle with nicks and marks on the stock. It is a school training rifle based on the lack of the chrysanthemum on the receiver, crudity, smooth bore, and marking on the butt stock. There are no import markings and the dust cover is present. Typical training receiver markings and insiginia translated is peace type according to the Military Rifles of Japan book written by Fred L. Honeycutt and F. Patt Anthony. The functionality of the rifle seems to work meaning bby charging the bolt and pulling the trigger causes the firearm to discharge. Serial numbers are non-matching which is typical for these rifles. Numbers match on the receiver, bolt and magazine base plate. Non-matching numbers are on the bolt carrier and bolt handle. Cleaning rod is present.
