For sale is an original finish Smith & Wesson M1917 revolver in the original caliber of .45 ACP. It is proof marked with the flaming bomb, which means it was most likely produced in September 1918 (that is when they stopped using Gilbert H. Stewart's G.H.S. monogram proof and went to the flaming bomb around ser# 42,000). In plenty of time to have made it overseas before the War ended. It is in overall excellent condition with a few light handling marks and tiny wear spots. There are a few tiny spots of oxidation/pitting that will be heavily magnified in the photos. The numbers are all matching to include: the butt, barrel, cylinder face, extractor star, and right grip (the left was never pencil marked). The frames of these AND their Colt counterparts, were numbered with an internal factory number that was for factory use only, to keep the frames and yokes together (or crane, as Colt referred to them). The cylinder walls, bore, and rifling are all in superb condition. Bright and shiny! The revolver functions and times excellently. The "rig" consists of an original Mills manufactured, M1912 pistol belt dated 1918 with saber hanger bracket, an original Graton & Knight (G&K) M1917 holster dated 1917, and 3 sets of original "moon clips" for the rimless .45 ACP rounds. This is a wonderful WW1 rig that anyone would be proud to add to their collection. This is C&R eligible, where legal!
