Navy Commercial double-action revolver, chambered in .38 Long Colt and manufactured in 1895. This model is historically significant as Colt’s first production double-action revolver.

This revolver is a commercial example in its original configuration, including the free-rotating cylinder, which is correct for early 1889 models. Most Navy-issued examples were later modified with locking cylinders, making untouched originals like this increasingly scarce. Fewer than ~5,000 were produced in this contiguration.
Condition Notes:
* Approximately 50% original high-polish blue remains
* Areas of finish loss, light surface rust, and brown patina consistent with age
* No evidence of refinish or alteration
* Fire bluing remains visible on trigger, hammer, and screws
* Bore shows light pin-prick pitting and slightly worn rifling, very respectable for age
* Action functions correctly; locks up tight when cocked
