Winchester U.S.1917 30-06

Description:
Here we have a Winchester U.S 1917 bolt action chambered in 30-06. This rifle was masnufactured in1918 and it has a clean bore and rifling that shows its age. From the markings (shown in the photos) it is an arsenal rebuild. the "USMC" stamp often seen is from the United Shoe Manufacturing Company (USMC) used on M1917 bolts during refurbishments, The exact meaning of these "3 GM-D", cartouche is considered a mystery among military surplus collectors, and no definitive official documentation has been found to decode it completely, with the "GM" portion is widely speculated to stand for General Motors, The "JA" stamp on a Model 1917 barrel indicates that it is a replacement barrel made by Johnson Automatics.
