ArmsList for the Virginia area was bustling at one point of time prior to ArmList building a paywall and the 2020 law mandating background checks for private sales. This is an FYI private sales of firearms are now legal as of 10/29/2025. There's no need or requirement to drive out of your way as a buyer to throw away $25 to as much as $100 for a background check. There's no need to have to wait for hours because you've been delayed. 

My advice to those who are looking to buy is to NOT buy from those who are forcing you to do a background check UNLESS they're going to pay for it out of their pocket instead of forcing you to.
