This item is a WWII produced Japanese Army Officer "Shin-Gunto" TYPE 98 sword and scabbard. The kanji on the tang have been run through a translator and it indicates that the swordsmith was Akamajō Nobusaku and that the blade was created in DEC. 1843. The blade has a wave-like hamon pattern consistent with a handmade sword and is overall in great condition. The wrapping on the handle is starting to come apart in a couple places and a previous owner wrapped leather cordage over to stop the deterioration. This sword would make a fine addition to any collection and is ready for another home.
