For sale is a WW1 U.S. Remington M1917 rifle in the original caliber of .30-06. The M1917 was produced by Eddystone, Remington, and Winchester. There were 2 or 3 of these to every M1903 issued in WW1. The Springfield M1903 gets all the credit, but there were MANY more M1917 rifles issued during the war. These are not available through the CMP (I'm guessing this is a DCM rifle, as there are NO import markings anywhere) unless you get extremely lucky and one happens to roll in (Good Luck!) while you are at one of their stores. In this condition, it would go straight to their overpriced auction site and sell for $3k. Ser# 494745 was manufactured in October of 1918. The barrel is a WW2 replacement barrel manufactured by Johnson Automatics. The same Johnson Automatics that built the Johnson M1941 rifle. It is marked with a JA, a flaming bomb, and a firing proof P. The parts are not all matching makers. Most of, if not all, bolt parts are R-marked. The replacement stock is in amazing condition. The only marking (as would be correct for a WW2 rebuild) is Elmer Keith's (yes, THAT Elmer Keith) Ogden Arsenal O.G.E.K. inspection cartouche.
The bore and rifling are like new. This rifle will be a great shooter. The muzzle gauges at 0.75 on my gauge, which is probably close to what it came from the factory as. Just a really nice-looking M1917 with a great barrel. Great for shooting and collecting. This is C&R eligible, where legal. Included is an original Remington-made Model 1917 bayonet and scabbard. The scabbard was made by JEWELL and is dated 1918. Only Remington and Winchester made M1917 bayonets. Eddystone did not make its own. Also included is the unmarked M-1907 sling. I am not sure if it is an original sling, but it sure looks exactly like some originals I have here. This makes for a nice, complete collector's/shooter's package.
