Inventory#: 11173938
Make: SPRINGFIELD ARMORY
Model: 1868 TRAPDOOR
Condition: USED
This firearm is a Springfield Armory made 1868 Trapdoor rifle chambered in 50-70 GOVT. The firearm features a 32 1/2" barrel with a sleeve that was braized in place and shortened, then fitted to a newly made receiver. More than 50,000 (52,145) Model 1868 rifles were produced between 1868 and 1872. Civil War-era lockplates (usually dated 1863 or 1864) were used, and the breechblocks were usually dated “1869” or “1870.” This particular firearm has a lockplate dated 1864 and a breechblock dated 1865. The wood has a few cracks in the forend section and a toe is missing near the muzzle but could be brought back with some care. The breechblock has a flange broken off near the threaded portion of the firing pin channel and the firing pin appears to be siezed in place currently. A rear sight will be needed for this piece as well. These firearms are a part of American history and would be an outstanding part of any collectors arsenal, get yours today!
