This is a Model 1959 Type I bayonet with scabbard, rubber insulator, leather hand strap, and full leather frog. The AKM rifle was introduced in 1960 as a replacement for the original AK-47.

The bayonet is 11" long overall with a 6" stainless steel blade, which makes the bayonet impervious to rust. The unfullered clip-point blade has sawteeth along the spine. The knife sports a two-piece bakelite grip. A thin leather hand strap connects at the pommel and the cross guard for extra grip when used as a combat knife.

The steel scabbard body has a lug at the point that engages a hole in the blade, so that the bayonet and scabbard can be combined as a wirecutter. A rubber insulator is mounted on the scabbard, making it safe to cut electrified wire.

The Leather frog is "buttoned" around the scabbard and forms a sturdy belt loop. Blade, scabbard, and frog is a modern reproduction of the original. Bakelite grips show wear with moderate dings.

The AKM M59 bayonet was produced by East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Russia
