Up for sale is the elusive Savage arms .22LR - Model 29-b slam fire rifle with 4X scope.

The Savage Model 29 series was a line of pump-action .22 rifles made from the early 1920s through the late 1960s. The 29-B variant was introduced in the late 1930s as a refined version with minor design and cosmetic changes. It was designed as a takedown rifle for plinking, small-game hunting, and general recreation.

Key Features

  • Caliber: .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle (interchangeable).

  • Action: Pump-action (slide action), hammer-fired.

  • Capacity: Tubular magazine, typically holding 15–20 rounds depending on cartridge length.

  • Barrel: 24" round barrel (common), blued finish.

  • Stock: Walnut buttstock and grooved slide handle.

  • Variants: Different production runs offered checkering, different sight options, and minor design refinements.

Slam-Fire Feature

  • Like the Winchester Model 1890/1906 and early Remington and Ithaca pumps, the Savage 29-B could be fired by simply holding the trigger down while cycling the action. This allowed extremely rapid fire for a .22 pump, making it popular with recreational shooters.

  • Later pump .22s (and most modern pumps/shotguns) eliminated slam-fire for safety reasons so you KNOW youre going to have fun with this one

Use & Performance

  • Accurate, smooth-operating, and fun to shoot, the 29-B became a favorite farm gun and youth rifle. Due to its ability to handle shorts, longs, and long rifle rounds made it versatile and economical.

Collectibility

  • The Model 29-B has a loyal following among Savage collectors and vintage rimfire enthusiasts.

  • Value depends on condition, originality, and whether it’s still a functional takedown.

  • Examples are increasingly harder to find, especially with unmodified stocks and good bluing.

The Savage 29 series helped establish Savage as a serious competitor in the rimfire rifle market. Its combination of affordability, durability, and rapid-fire capability made it a classic small-game and plinking rifle that’s still appreciated today.
