The Hungarian M44 is a licensed variant of the Soviet Mosin–Nagant M44 carbine, produced after World War II. Like other Mosin–Nagants, it is a bolt-action, magazine-fed rifle chambered in the powerful 7.62×54R cartridge.

History & Production

  • Manufactured in Hungary (FÉG factory, Budapest) starting in the early 1950s (primarily 1952–1953).

  • Produced as part of the Warsaw Pact effort to standardize small arms following Soviet designs.

  • Closely patterned after the Soviet M44, with only minor factory and marking differences.
