The M855a1 represents the most significant performance leap in small-arms ammunition in decades. The M855a1 has much greater penetrating ability out to farther distances than your standard 5.56 FMJ, and your standard M855 Green Tip. Subsequently, this also makes it much harder to get your hands on, especially in original factory specifications.
These are technically NOT armor piercing; however, there have been a number of YouTube videos and tests demonstrating this rounds ability.
