This is a beautiful example of a mid 1918 production the serial number dates it to the first two weeks of production in June 1918 and the combination of finish along with a mix of new and old style parts gives us a glimpse into production at Colt during a very brief window in time

Many production shortcuts were implemented in 1918 and this pistol shows some, but not all of them. It was built in that transition. It has the black finish and retains more finish than many from that timeframe. The slide with the ramp Colt logo moved from the rear to the center was fully implemented only a month before it is still correct and Wears the earlier thumb safety. They were changed some months later. It does have two different grip panels. The left grip is the late war style with the 13 row of checkering between the large diamonds and the right grip is the earlier style with 15 rows that makes is absolutely correct for the serial number Range while the old stock was being used up and mixed parts were the norm this happened only for a short period of time.
