Springfield Trap Door – Model 1873 - 45-70 - Stk #P-34-78

 

This original Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor chambered for 45-70  has a 31-¼” blued tapered round 1” to ¾” barrel. The finish is worn with minor pitting throughout all the metal parts. The bore is in very good condition with clean sharp rifling. Two barrel bands both have the “U” markings stamped into them. The barrel is mounted with a fixed front blade sight and an adjustable Buffington sight that is in good working condition. The receiver is in good condition as well. “US Springfield 1873” is stamped on the lock plate next to the spread eagle. The breech block has been patented “US / MODEL / 1873” is stamped on the breech block next to the hinge. The full length wood stock is in fair condition with multiple usage dings and repaired crack at the wrist and a chip at the toe of the tang. There are small dents and handling marks throughout.  The crescent buttplate fits the stock well and is stamped “US” on the top.  The length of pull is 13-½”, the overall length is 52”, and the weight is 8.6 lbs.
