The historic Russian rifle that shoots the 7.62x54R cartridge…a round that is the longest serving military cartridge in the world. Ballistics are similar to .308 and 30.06. Over 100 years old, these rifles are still used today…i.e. the Ukraine conflict. A sniper version is seen in the attached pic.
This is a hybrid rifle, matching an 1897 Tula hex barrel with an 1895 French contracted Chatterault receiver.
Odds are, the barrel and receiver (separately) were used in WWI, the Russian Civil War, and maybe the The Winter War. In its current form, possibly used in the Winter War, the Continuation War, and the Lapland War.
This rifle is not only a collectible, but a shooter. Considering the direction our country is heading, having an unregistered firearm might be an option you may want to consider. To my knowledge, this rifle is not in any government database.
