We just acquired this model 617-2, stainless steel, 6" barrel, with the early production aluminum 10 shot cylinder. It sports a set of beautiful custom stocks that are in excellent condition. This gun just feels right with the 6" underlug barrel giving it a good balance. Little to no recoil and with it chambered in 22 LR it is still the least expensive round to shoot. PRE-LOCK model 617's are difficult to find. This 617 is in great condition showing some surface scuffing on the exterior of the cylinder.

WEB INFORMATION

The Smith & Wesson Model 17 is a six-shot double-action revolver chambered for .22 LR. It is built on Smith & Wesson's medium-sized K-frame.

With the introduction of the Model 17 with full underlug barrels, Smith & Wesson also began production of the .22 caliber Model 617. This is the stainless steel version of the blued steel Model 17 .22 LR; however, all Model 617's have full underlug barrels. Offered in the same three barrel lengths as the Model 17, the 617 is still in current production and is shipped with rubber grips. The Model 617 is found with a six-shot or ten-shot, steel .22 LR cylinder. The only exception is the early production Model 617-2 which was made with a ten-shot, aluminum alloy .22 LR cylinder. Later "dash 2" 617's were shipped with stainless steel cylinders.
