We have a used surplus German 1917 Gewehr 98 (Gew 98) Mauser for sale. This rifle comes chambered in 8mm Mauser with a 29" barrel. This comes as shown in pictures. The Gewehr 98 (abbreviated G98, Gew 98 or M98) is a German bolt action rifle made by Mauser firing cartridges from a 5-round internal clip-loaded magazine. It was the German service rifle from 1898 to 1935, when it was replaced by the Karabiner 98k, a shorter weapon using the same basic design. The Gewehr 98 action, using a stripper clip loaded with the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge, successfully combined and improved several bolt action engineering concepts which were soon adopted by many other countries including the UK, Japan, and the US. The Gewehr 98 replaced the earlier Gewehr 1888 as the main German service rifle. There were eleven manufacturer’s altogether, four government arsenals and seven commercial concerns, only two of which were allowed to manufacture the rifle prior to the war. This particular rifle was produced at the Prussian Arsenal Spandau which produced them from 1899-1917. This is a non-matching numbers rifle, the only numbers that match are the barrel and receiver. This is in Good to Fair Used Condition, however the rifle is pitted and has various points of small surface rust. The barrel is dark, however be believe with a proper cleaning could be brought back to life. Check out the pictures and feel free to call or email with any questions.
