Remington 1863 Zouave Civil War Rifle.  The 1863 Zouave rifle was originally produced by Remington Arms under a contract with the US Government.  Very few models actually saw action during the Civil War and none were distributed to any army division.  However, the Zouave was created to put a more maneuverable firearm into the hands of soldiers and along with its’ barrel strength it was also prized for its’ overall beauty.  The patch box additionally allowed for storage.

Also known as the “Zouave Rifle”, the .58 caliber muzzle loading 1863 Remington was referred to as “Harpers Ferry Pattern” in official Army documents.  Over 12,000 were manufactured.  The model 1863 rifle was the Percussion Rifle purchased by the U.S. Army from Remington.  Part of a civil war collection of 12 rifles.  Serial # 773XX.  Preowned.
