Remington model target 540X production between 1969-1974. Pretty close at a 40X and cut the price where someone could really afford to buy one. I doubt I could shoot good enough to tell the differance. If you have a marksman looking to upgrade in sport, this is an accurate and very respectable rifle. Made back in the days of a pen and paper, not a major computer automation. Skilled workers really had to design and build this rifle.
