Rare Stevens 520-30 U.S. Military Trench Shotgun chambered in 12 gauge. Production on this model began in 1941 and these remained U.S. service until Vietnam. This shotgun is in excellent plus condition overall. The finish has 90% or better original bluing. This shotgun is mechanically excellent, with no play in the bolt. The bore of the 20 inch barrel is bright and mirror-like and has a cylinder bore choke. The wood furniture is also in excellent condition with no cracks or splits. No signs of sanding. Original Bakelite butt pad has been replaced (easily replaced if desired) at some point with a solid brass replacement. Shotgun is missing the original heat shield, ghost marks are present where the heat shield was mounted. Otherwise a complete and original example of a military shotgun. The shotgun is double “P” proof marked both on the barrel and receiver. The barrel and receiver are marked with the “Flaming Bomb” ordnance department mark. Above the trigger there is a “U.S” property marking. The anodized bayonet lug, unique to the Stevens trench shotgun, accepts the model 1917 bayonet. Bayonet lug is marked “S” for Stevens and is original to the shotgun. The shotgun is not import marked and comes with a non-period leather sling. This is a seldom opportunity to own a very rare U.S. military shotgun! This shotgun is C&R eligible.
