The barrel date has been obscured from heavy use of fulminate primers, used in the mid 19th century. It is US marked. I have reason to believe this is Civil War era, due to the location I found this rifle. In a house in south west Atlanta, very near to the Battle of Utoy Creek. It has some carving on the left side of the stock, I am unable to decypher. Initials, not unit markings. It is missing its ramrod. Maybe even Confederate soldier provenance.
