The Hungarian M44 is a licensed variant of the Soviet Mosin–Nagant M44 carbine, produced after World War II. Like other Mosin–Nagants, it is a bolt-action, magazine-fed rifle chambered in the powerful 7.62×54R cartridge.

History & Production

Manufactured in Hungary (FÉG factory, Budapest) starting in the early 1950s (primarily 1952–1953).
Produced as part of the Warsaw Pact effort to standardize small arms following Soviet designs.
Closely patterned after the Soviet M44, with only minor factory and marking differences.

The Carcano family of rifles and carbines served as the standard-issue small arm of the Italian military from 1891 through World War II. The carbine variant produced in 1924 at the Roma (Rome) Arsenal is part of this long lineage, reflecting Italy’s interwar firearm production.
