For sale is a French Model 1816 pistol. It was refurbished by the French government and sent to the U.S. for Civil War use. That is why it was converted to percussion. In absolutely fine condition, the stampings and even the stock cartouche are very legible. The pistol works as it should and is an excellent specimen! Research these, they have a rich history. For sale is an authentic British flintlock officer's or traveling pistol produced by Henry Nock (1741–1804), one of the most innovative and prominent London gunsmiths of the Napoleonic era. As an official gunmaker to King George III and a primary contractor to the British Board of Ordnance, Nock revolutionized firearms engineering by mass-producing interchangeable gunlock components, pioneering the "Knoxform" patent breech, and inventing the iconic seven-barrel naval volley gun. Following his death, his highly successful workshop passed to his son-in-law James Wilkinson, forming the direct ancestral foundation of the world-renowned Wilkinson Sword company. This specific firearm features a 9-inch barrel and was produced during the peak of Nock's career, roughly between 1790 and 1804. The lock plate features the name "H. NOCK" in clear serif block lettering, bordered by fine engraving with a simple geometric double-line border tracing the stepped tail. The lock holds a dark flint wrapped in leather within its ring-neck cock, positioned over a deep, raised waterproof flash pan. The unlined iron touchhole sits flush with the pan, showing some pitting and black powder corrosion on the adjacent barrel steel from historical firing. The top flat of the 9-inch iron barrel is hand-engraved with the city name "LONDON" and displays two crisp London Gunmakers' Company stamps: a Crown over "GP" definitive proof mark and a Crown over "V" inspection mark. The lock mechanism is secured to the dark walnut stock by two steel screws anchored through a brass, snake-shaped side plate on the left profile. The hand-carved stock features dense diamond checkering across the grip and ends in a bulbous butt. Near the lock panel, the wood bears a small stamped "IA" mark representing the workshop's stockmaker or inspector. The hammer looks to have been repaired many years ago. It functions as it should, and the flint sparks! Everything works as it should. This can be shot, but I would suggest having a competent gunsmith check it over first (as is always recommended with any firearm). There are some cracks in the stock caused by age-related wood shrinkage or the stress of the lock firing forward, that have been repaired. All repairs are stable and look to have been done when the pistol was still in service. The 9-inch iron barrel is held via two sliding steel keys that pass completely through matching loops on the barrel's underside. These keys are framed by two sets of rectangular brass escutcheon plates to protect the wood from wear, and a small iron pin holds the internal brass ramrod pipe in position. Beneath the barrel, an unpolished brass trigger guard assembly features a decorative acorn or leaf-shaped forward finial inlaid flush into the stock. The pistol retains its original style of all-wood ramrod, which is carved from a single piece of dark hardwood with a flared, bulbous tip and no metal cap.
